Cultivate What God Entrusts

Yahweh God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate and keep it. Yahweh God commanded the man, saying, “You may freely eat of every tree of the garden; but you shall not eat of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil; for in the day that you eat of it, you will surely die.”

— Genesis 2:15-17 WEB

Prayer

Creator God, everything good in my care began with You. I receive my life, time, abilities, relationships, opportunities, and possessions as gifts rather than personal achievements. Place me again within the work You have assigned, and deliver me from treating stewardship as either a burden without dignity or a possession without accountability. Let gratitude become the soil from which faithful labor grows.

Teach me to cultivate what You have entrusted. Show me which skills need development, which responsibilities require renewed attention, and which relationships need patient care. Free me from passivity disguised as waiting. Give me energy for the next faithful task, wisdom to improve what can grow, and humility to learn from others. May my work release fruit that nourishes more than myself.

Help me also to keep and guard. Reveal where neglect, distraction, poor boundaries, or careless access is placing good gifts at risk. Give me courage to protect rest, health, family trust, financial integrity, and spiritual focus. Keep vigilance from becoming fearful control. Let wise protection serve life, flourishing, and the purposes for which each gift was given.

I honor the limits of Your command. Forgive me for grasping what You have not given, using freedom without reverence, or assuming desire creates permission. Through Christ, strengthen me to say no when appetite pushes beyond wisdom. Make obedience more precious than immediate satisfaction, and teach my household that holy boundaries preserve blessing rather than diminish it.

Redeem my understanding of labor. When work is difficult, remind me that cultivation was part of human calling before the fall. When results are slow, preserve perseverance. When fruit appears, protect me from pride. Let excellence be offered as worship, not used as proof of worth. Guide the balance between effort, rest, enjoyment, and responsible care.

I place every entrusted garden beneath Your presence. May nothing be wasted through indifference or ruined through ownership without surrender. Form in me the heart of a faithful keeper who receives freely, works diligently, guards wisely, and releases fruit generously. Let Christ restore my stewardship so that all I cultivate serves Your glory and blesses those within my care. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
