Mercy Still Warns

For I have no pleasure in the death of him who dies," says the Lord Yahweh. "Therefore turn yourselves, and live!

— Ezekiel 18:32 WEB

From the Classic

While Captain Judgment was speaking to Soul City, some noticed that Diabolus trembled. Yet the captain kept going with his warning and said, "Sorrowful Soul City, will you still refuse to open your gate to receive us, the messengers of your King, the ones who would rejoice to see you live? Can your heart hold firm? Can your hands stay strong on the day when he deals with you in judgment? Can you endure being made to drink the sea of wrath that our King has prepared for Diabolus and his angels? Think now. Think while there is still time."

Then the fourth captain, noble Captain Execution, stepped forward and said, "Soul City, once famous, now like a fruitless branch, once the joy of the high ones, now a hiding place for Diabolus, listen also to me and to the words I speak in the name of great Shaddai. The axe is already laid near the root of the trees. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire."

"Soul City, you have been that fruitless tree. You have produced nothing but thorns and briars. Your bad fruit proves that you are not a good tree. Your grapes are bitter, and your clusters are poisonous. You have rebelled against your King, and we, the power and force of Shaddai, are the axe laid near your root. What will you say? Will you turn? Tell me before the first blow falls: will you turn? The axe is first laid near your root as a warning before it is laid against your root in judgment. Between the warning and the blow, repentance is required. That is the time you have. What will you do? Will you turn, or must I strike? If the blow falls, Soul City, you go down. I have authority to lay the axe against your roots as well as near them, and nothing but surrender to our King will stop the judgment. If mercy does not step in, what are you fit for except to be cut down, thrown into the fire, and burned?"

Prayer

Father, help me hear your mercy even when your Word corrects me. Do not let me confuse your warnings with rejection. Teach me to turn while you are calling, to open the gates of my heart to your rightful rule, and to trust that your desire is life, not ruin. Make me quick to repent, honest about my fruit, and thankful for the mercy that warns before judgment falls. In Jesus' name, Amen.
