Seek the Peace of the City

Seek the peace of the city where I have caused you to be carried away captive, and pray to Yahweh for it; for in its peace you will have peace.”

—Jeremiah 29:7 WEB

Prayer

O Sovereign Lord, God of Heaven and Earth, You who rule over nations and set kings in their place, we come before You today as intercessors—standing in the gap for a nation longing for healing, for unity, and for Your peace.

You said through Your prophet, “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper” (Jeremiah 29:7). So, Lord, we seek the peace of this land. Not a peace built by the hands of men, but a peace born from righteousness, forged in truth, and secured by Your Spirit.

Father, we confess that division has pierced the soul of our nation. Walls have been raised between brother and brother, tribe and tribe, race and race, party and party. But You, O Lord, are the God who tears down walls. You are our Peace, who has broken down every dividing wall of hostility. We ask You to do it again. Break every yoke of offense. Silence every voice that foments hate. Heal the generational wounds that bleed beneath the surface. Pour the oil of reconciliation where there has been bitterness, suspicion, and betrayal.

We pray for the cities and regions You have placed us in—not with condemnation, but with compassion. Let every neighborhood, every rural town, every urban center come under the canopy of Your presence. Send revival to city halls and street corners, to school boards and sanctuaries. Let peace flow like a river through the places where chaos and confusion have reigned.

God of mercy, teach us to pray for those we disagree with. To love even when it costs. To seek the good of others, not just the comfort of ourselves. Make us ministers of reconciliation—bridging gaps, healing hearts, standing firm in the Spirit, but always with gentleness and truth.

We ask that You would prosper this nation—not just economically, but in soul, in conscience, in character. Prosper us with wisdom. Prosper us with justice. Prosper us with humility. And may Your name be honored once again in the public square and in every home.

Do it, Lord, not for our glory, but for Yours. That the world may see and know that there is a God in heaven who answers prayer and heals nations.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
