“Yahweh’s angel found her by a fountain of water in the wilderness, by the fountain on the way to Shur. He said, ‘Hagar, Sarai’s servant, where did you come from? Where are you going?’ She said, ‘I am fleeing from the face of my mistress Sarai.’ Yahweh’s angel said to her, ‘Return to your mistress, and submit yourself under her hands.’ Yahweh’s angel said to her, ‘I will greatly multiply your offspring, that they will not be counted for multitude.’ Yahweh’s angel said to her, ‘Behold, you are with child, and will bear a son. You shall call his name Ishmael, because Yahweh has heard your affliction. He will be like a wild donkey among men. His hand will be against every man, and every man’s hand against him. He will live opposite all of his brothers.’ She called the name of Yahweh who spoke to her, ‘You are a God who sees,’ for she said, ‘Have I even stayed alive after seeing him?’”
El Roi meets us in the wilderness seasons—the places where we feel unseen, unheard, and overwhelmed. Hagar discovered that God not only knew her name but also her story, her fears, and her future. El Roi is the God who sees you in your distress and speaks purpose into moments that feel empty or chaotic. His seeing is not passive observation; it is active intervention, guidance, compassion, and promise. He sees the tears you never voiced and the questions you never dared to ask. This Scripture reminds the believer that even when you are running, God is pursuing. Even when you feel lost, He knows the way forward. El Roi reveals Himself as both the One who searches and the One who stays. In Him, you find comfort, dignity restored, calling revived, and hope reignited. He is the God who sees you—not generically, but personally and lovingly.
Prayer
El Roi, God who sees me, I lift my heart before You with awe and gratitude. You are the God who finds me in the hidden places, the silent pain, the wildernesses I never meant to enter. You locate me even when I cannot locate myself, and You call me by name when others only call my mistakes. Thank You for being the God who searches me out with compassion instead of condemnation.
Father, I invite Your seeing into every corner of my life—my wounds, my regrets, my unspoken fears, my weary hopes. Let Your gaze bring healing where I have carried shame, restoration where I have felt forgotten, and clarity where confusion has clouded my path. As You met Hagar and spoke promise to her, speak purpose over me and my family. Let every wilderness become a meeting place with El Roi.
Lord, reveal the next steps before me. When I am tempted to flee from hardship, help me hear Your gentle command leading me into paths of peace, growth, and destiny. May Your vision redefine my identity so I no longer live from wounds but from the Word You have spoken.
El Roi, watch over my home, my loved ones, my journey, and my future. Lift my eyes to see that I am never abandoned. Surround me with Your assurance that Your plans for me are still alive, expanding, and unstoppable. Where I feel unseen, let Your presence become my anchor.
I declare that every season of hiding is shifting into a season of divine visibility—not for human applause, but for holy alignment. God who sees me, establish me in Your promise, strengthen me in Your presence, and steady me under Your watchful care.
In Jesus’ name, Amen.
